ARC-GEN INTRODUCES NEW FAMILY AT SED
Arc-Gen is planning to have a quiet stand at this year’s SED show. They will be unveiling an extended range of Super Silent and new Ultra Silent machines. Building on its award-winning ‘green’ credentials, these will be some of the quietest units available in the UK. To complete the company’s Weldmaker welder-generator family, Arc-Gen will showcase the new 400 and 500 SSD plus the 400 CC/CV.
There are nine new models being added to the DCA Generator range, giving customers a complete solution to their on-site power requirements. The machines range from 14kVA to 100kVA in the Super Silent range and two Ultra Silent models – 22kVA and 40kVA – which generate 50db(A) at 7m compared to the industry average of 65db(A). Arc-Gen sales director Andy Munford said: “ Our new machines may be quieter than the average generators, in some cases up to 15db (A) through our Ultra Silent range, but we are confident they will create a great deal of noise and excitement at the show."
“There is increasing pressure on the construction industry to adhere to environmentally friendly practices, which includes minimising the noise created on-site. Our generators are leading the way in terms of not only being the quietest on the market but also the most reliable over a long period of time, minimising the amount of natural resources and energy required to manufacture replacement machines. By extending both our Weldmaker and DCA generator range we can now offer our customers a total solution to their on-site power needs, whether it’s a small individual project through to a major construction site or even a large public event such as an arena pop concert.”
Arc-Gen will be exhibiting at stand 420C.

Latest B-Series Tracked Excavators
From the heavy-line range of crawler excavators, and on show for the first time is the high-productivity E385B, with an operating weight of 41 ton, the E215B in the popular 25 ton. class, and in the 13 ton class, the very popular E135B SR with long undercarriage and dozer blade. The latest series features new style, new cab, new arm and booms and new counterweight design. On demonstration will be the all new E235B - the first to feature New Holland’s integrated noise and dust reduction (INDR) design. The entire counterweight and engine compartment is used as a cooling system and exhaust muffler, with air directed from one side of the machine, through the cooler cores, over the engine and out of the other side.
New B-Series Backhoe-Loader
The latest upgrade to the New Holland backhoe-loader range is the B110B with pilot controls. The new series benefits from the latest Iveco Tier III engine for more power (82 kW) with less fuel consumption and lower emissions. A redesigned tilting hood for easier access to the engine enables easier servicing and maintenance. The more noticeable features are the curved backhoe boom, a larger size dipper cylinder and new backhoe bucket shapes, which work together to give an improved backhoe digging performance.
More Power to the New Holland Dozer Range
Being exhibited for the first time is the new D150BWT tracked dozer which has more power and more torque than the previous model due to the enhanced performance of Tier III engine technology. The new engine delivers more power with up to 10% less fuel. Advanced hydrostatic drive and steering under power ensures a smoother operation. The long travel drive with oscillating equalizer tracks bar give significantly improved blade levelling properties. Visibility to the blade is excellent as a result of changes to the cab design, which, apart from more comfort, gives better all-round visibility.
. . . And More
New Holland will also have other machines on show to illustrate the full range capability the company provides. A showpiece will be the unique E150 Blade Runner which is a perfectly balanced dozer-excavator or excavator-dozer, depending on which way you want to look at it.
ENIGMA LAUNCHES NEW VERSION OF SKYLINE GPS SECURITY SYSTEM AT SED 2008
At SED 2008 on the A-Plant Stand, Enigma Vehicle Systems of Southend on Sea in Essex will be launching the new wholly Internet-based Version 6.0 of the company’s successful Skyline GPS advanced tracking and security system, offering faster response, better functionality and enhanced flexibility through increased data analysis features. The universal design of the new Skyline 6.0 system now allows it to be used simultaneously by both UK/European customers and those in other world markets (including Latin America, Africa and the Middle East).
As an advanced tracking and security system, Skyline 6.0 provides even more information for detailed, relevant and user friendly reports on plant status on a 24/7 basis. As the new Skyline Version 6.0 is fully Web-based, this allows the customer to access their account from any computer, PDA, Blackberry or mobile phone with internet access. This requires no special tools, only industry-standard browsers, so there is no need to install additional software on the customer’s devices.
Being totally web-based, the software update in Skyline 6.0 has been seamless and now involves fully integrated Google road, satellite and hybrid maps. The new system offers a configurable login, with the user able to customise Client settings, Driver settings, Vehicle settings, User settings and Vehicle icons. The user can also set Geo-zones and arrange for text/email alerts and automated email reports to be sent to them. The user can change their own password for security purposes and the increased functionality offers a route replay function and allows the user to input custom points and integrate them in reports.
In use in over 600 businesses worldwide, in diverse industries from major equipment rental companies including A-Plant in the UK to large transport operators such as P & O Ferries and Kenya Airways, the unique combination of tracking and telematics capability in Skyline has provided astonishing results. For example, the recovery rate for stolen plant fitted with Skyline at one of the leading rental companies is running in excess of 95%.
Version 6.0 of Skyline retains all of the functions of the previous system, including total security protection with ‘tow-away’ alert, battery disconnection and low power warning and optional 24/7 monitoring through an approved Secure Operating Centre (SOC).
Each vehicle or piece of plant remains in contact with the server 24/7 so status is available to Enigma users at all times; additionally they can request positions, add zones around equipment and vehicles (for additional theft protection) and monitor hours used (per rental or accumulatively).
In addition to plant security and vehicle management, the Skyline system can be used for driver performance analysis (using RFID tagging), bus passenger manifest and zone violations (via geo-fence and point-of-interest reporting). The Skyline 6.0 system will report vehicle movements (authorised or unauthorised), tamper, ignition state and a host of other data via eight input/output ports that can be used for monitoring additional sensors. These may be fuel level, battery level, coolant, engine running/not running, engine covers open/closed and so on. Each system can be customised to provide the security and telemetry data required by both the customer and user.
Other options available on the Skyline system are:
- Optional keypad immobiliser with remote immobilisation feature.
- Text polling from mobile phone.
- PDA access with street level images.
- Driver identification option (Skyline X8 Plus only) using electronic tags (RFID).
- Lone Worker Protection.
- Portable, personal tracking with voice capability.
Enigma contracts out-of-hours monitoring to an approved SOC that provides a range of services, including theft alert, lone-worker liaison and panic button response.
The Skyline 6.0 system can be used on any vehicle and all types of site equipment from excavators, compressors and dumpers to generators, forklift trucks, traffic light sets and powered access platforms. The major target markets for Enigma include: Plant Hire; Contractor Fleets; Commercial Vehicle Fleets; Building Supplies; Waste Management and Service Engineering.
