Safe Drilling from DEWALT - Cordless, low vibration and dust free:
Health and Safety is paramount in the workplace and with the added emphasis on dust control, DEWALT has designed a low vibration cordless drilling system with integrated dust extraction to combat this. The DC234KL 36v rotary hammer can now produce low vibration and dust free drilling in conjunction with the new D25302DH integrated dust extraction adaptor.
Long term exposure to certain dusts (especially in silica aggregates) can cause silicosis or asthma. These risks can now be seriously reduced by using the DEWALT system. The D25302DH has an independent motor and draws its power from the 36v battery in the drill. Having an independent motor ensures that full suction power is obtained and that there is no reduction in drilling performance. It works with a sprung loaded extendable nose-piece attached to the handle and a hose that is attached to the nose piece from the dust collector. This means that the extraction works directly on the work piece and all dust is cleared immediately. The vacuum starts as soon as the trigger is pressed and remains on for several seconds after the trigger is released to ensure all hoses are clear after drilling. The dust collector has a HEPA filter, is bagless and is easily emptied simply by removing the cartridge and emptying the contents into a bin.
The DC234KL itself has very low vibration figures. The internal gearbox has its own unique suspended gear case that helps reduce vibration to only 8m/s² (EN60745). It is supplied with 2 x 36v Lithium-Ion batteries and a charger allowing maximum run-time and power. To further enhance the confidence DEWALT have in this new technology these Lithium-Ion batteries now come with a 2 year warranty. The DC234KL is currently available. The D25302DH dust extraction attachment is available from April 2010.

A New Way To Secure Your Site Equiment
Opportunist theft on construction sites has always been a perennial problem, with small items such as power tools, portable generators, radios and hand tools often the target of light-fingered thieves. However, an uncomplicated, quick and efficient method of securing this type of equipment has been developed by a Dutch company – EasyLocker.
The EasyLocker is the very latest in retractable locking engineering, a simple yet very effective system, ideally suited to help prevent the theft of your valuable equipment, from the opportunist thief.
It takes just five seconds to secure most types of tools and equipment. The operator simply fits the EasyLocker to a solid object, such as a metal site box or welfare cabin, and then turns the key to pull out a 5m wire cable. The wire is then looped through the equipment and the security pin is returned into the EasyLocker. The cable is then tightened by a push of a button and the equipment is safely secured. When the site worker is ready to move on, a mere turn of key opens the locking mechanism and the 5m cable automatically rewinds back into the EasyLocker.
The EasyLocker will secure portable construction machinery, wheelbarrows, and even bicycles, lifting equipment or trolleys. It can be fitted to the inside or the outside of vans, helping to keep safe unsupervised equipment.
The EasyLocker is manufactured in the EC and comes with a 12-month warranty. The Hertfordshire based company, Lifting Kit, is the sole distributor of the EasyLocker in the UK and they are currently seeking dealers or stockists throughout the Country.

New Clamshell Buckets for Bobcat Excavators
A new range of hydraulic clamshell buckets is now available for Bobcat E55W, E60 and E80 excavators. In addition, the range of dipperstick-mounted hydraulic clamp attachments for the company’s excavator range is now complete with new attachments for the E80 excavator model.
Available in five widths from 40 to 80 cm, the clamshell buckets are supplied as standard with hydraulic opening and closing as well as a hydraulic rotator, offering infinite revolutions clockwise or counter-clockwise. All the models are available with a pin-on mount or a Lehnhoff mount system.
Mounted free-hanging on the dipperstick of the excavator, the clamshell buckets have two sets of two-way auxiliary hydraulics to utilise the two hydraulic circuits. One circuit controls the hydraulic opening and closing of the bucket, whilst the second hydraulic circuit controls the infinite rotation left or right. The clamshell buckets have a compact and robust design, owing to the new HPX maintenance-free drive system for bucket shell control, which eliminates the cylinder and ensures a constant closing force for easy digging.
The clamshell buckets have a cardanic upper suspension linking the coupler and the hydraulic rotator which allows free movement in two directions, ensuring that the clamshell bucket hangs straight, independent of the position of the excavator. The compact gear-type design of the hydraulic rotator allows precise control of the approach and stop movements of the clamshell bucket. Standard pressure relief valves protect against overloading.
Full closing force is delivered from the beginning of the digging process, when the shells are in the opened position, to ensure powerful penetration in heavy soils, as well as when the shells are closed, to optimally compact the material. Exchangeable shells permit a wide variety of applications and offer long service thanks to very durable hard-steel cutting edges (500HB) with standard bolt-on and replaceable teeth.
The hydraulic clamp attachments for the E80 excavator are easy to mount and use. They are available in two versions, a short clamp recommended for use with pin-on buckets, and a long clamp recommended for use with Klac or Lehnhoff systems. The opening and closing of the clamp is controlled via the standard auxiliary hydraulics of the excavator.
The hydraulic clamps are designed for any application involving picking and placing of objects with the Bobcat E80 excavator. Used in combination with a trenching bucket, the hydraulic clamp functions like a human thumb, allowing the operator to grasp, lift and place broken concrete and asphalt, tree stumps, stone blocks and other objects, fast and accurately.

Blakley Electric's Energy Saving Control for Fluorescent Lighting
Flori67/4P allows intelligent control of temporary fluorescent lighting, thereby allowing a reduction of electricity consumed and therefore a reduction of emissions.
Flori67/4P allows normal 110V fluorescent utility lighting to be switched off at the end of the working period, whilst maintaining the electrical supply to battery packs within emergency fluorescent light fittings, thus preventing a switch over to battery power and discharge of the battery pack. Additionally, it allows security/safety lighting to be permanently illuminated in selected locations, even when the utility lighting is switched off. Again a battery pack power supply is maintained.
Similar functionality can be created by installing two or more lighting circuits; one for utility lighting and one for emergency lighting. Compared to Flori67/4P this requires a greater use of materials and extra installation time
A major benefit of the system is that the main lighting ‘string’ that includes the sockets into which the adaptors fit, allows any of the three luminaire types to be plugged into any of the sockets whilst maintaining the required function of the luminaire. This allows the user to decide which type of light fitting should be used in a particular location. Furthermore, as the project evolves it is a simple matter to relocate light fittings as required.
In a normal non Flori67/4P installation, where emergency lighting is installed with utility lighting and the utility lighting is switched off, the emergency fittings remain illuminated using battery power. When workers return to site and the lights are switched on, there is no emergency lighting, which could be a fatal hazard and may not be noticed. Additionally, the batteries used in emergency fittings cannot stand to be fully discharged and recharged on a regular basis. It will result in the batteries not being able to hold a charge in as little as two weeks from installation. Again a possible fatal situation or at best an unaccepta ble waste of equipment and time to replace defunct fittings.
The adaptor (plug) and socket arrangement are unique to Flori67/4P. This prevents other lighting or power tools being plugged in. The socket and adaptor are moulded in high performance materials offering high impact resistance, encapsulated electrical terminations and protection to IP67. The ring of the adaptor when engaged with the socket provides an IP67 connection as does the lid of the socket for when it is not in use.
